Of course, the digestive system of the kid should also be considered in this diet. Genetic, social and cultural factors and stress are significant factors as well as foods are critical in growth and development of kids. In this chapter, we shall discuss any matters related to foods. Monitoring of growth of kids is evaluated according to community, where they take place. Growth and development disorders in kids occur due to diet deficits, deterioration of environmental conditions, irregular diet habits and any problems in the digestive system. In cases we call as an unconscious diet, for example, feeding kids with sugar starch may meet their energy requirements. But they are devoid of vitamin, mineral and proteins. This causes any diet deficits and nutrition disorders in kids. Diet disorder observed due to protein and energy taking deficit in kids and any resultant clinical condition (haemolysis occurred without edema) is called as marasmus. In kids, who take satisfactory energy, but less protein (in pure carbohydrate diet such as starch), eudemons haemolysis is observed. This is called as kwashiorkor.
Dokuların yeni oluşması enerji ihtiyacı gibi protein, mineral ve vitaminlere de ihtiyacı artırır.
Diet disorders accompanied by energy and protein intake called as protein energy malnutrition (PEM). Malnutrition includes direct or indirect problems in kid measurements (depending on reduction in body resistance). The important thing to be considered in diet of kids is that proper foods should be given in accordance with the existing systems, because their digestive systems are not developed yet. For example, since starch digestion is not sufficient, starch diet should not be used. Remember that in early periods of a kid, the best food is human breast milk. Digestion of other milks is difficult and they may cause any allergic reactions due to their ingredients. Furthermore, their intensive mineral ingredients may cause excessive load in kidney of kids. Since yogurt has less allergic effects, it may be used instead of milk. The kids, who never take soybean flour or human breast milk, may also use it. Stoarch should never be given. In early periods, energy, protein and vitamin requirements are excessive. Mineral requirement increases later.
Pregnant and breastfeeding women should both consider their own requirements and take additional foods for feeding of the fetus and milk formation. Therefore, proper diet in pregnant and breastfeeding women is critical for both woman and infant.
